Copenhagen, December 16, 2009 – Steven Guilbeault, cofounder and deputy director of Equiterre, has just been reelected as co-president of Climate Action Network International (CAN International). The other co-president is Mister Gaines Campbell III, from the Brazilian group Vitae Civilis.

Recognized by the United Nations, CAN International represents 500 Non-governmental environmental organizations from every region of the world including international groups like Greenpeace and WWF as well as smaller groups like the David Suzuki Foundation and Équiterre. CAN members work to achieve climate sustainability by the coordinated development of NGO strategy on international, regional, and national climate issues.

Since the first Conference of the parties (COP) to the United Nation’s Convention on Climate Change in 1995, Mister Guilbeault has participated in most COP meetings including Kyoto in 1997. He has dedicated his career to fighting climate change first as an Équiterre volunteer, then for the Greenpeace climate and energy campaign and now as deputy director and spokesperson for climate change and energy at Equiterre.
