Turcot watchdog group urges Quebec to keep its promises

Actu - Turcot plan

Last week, Montreal city council approved provincial plans to rebuild the Turcot interchange, the elevated roadway connecting Highways 15, 20 and 720 west of downtown. In response, the Turcot Watchdog Committee* re-issued its call for the project to serve as a model in sustainable urban development. The committee, which includes environmental groups Equiterre and the David Suzuki Foundation, will be watching the province to make sure it honours its promises to

  • reduce traffic flow into the city
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • provide more green spaces
  • improve public transit (e.g., more reserved bus lanes, improved commuter train service and a West Island commuter train)
