Montréal, 12 December 2016 – The nomination of three new board members will allow the National Energy Board (NEB) to relaunch its review of the Energy East pipeline project proposed by TransCanada. Équiterre is of the opinion that the next panel charged with the review must restart the evaluation process from the beginning in order to demonstrate its impartiality.
Équiterre wishes to remind the public that the documents filed by the company are not fair to francophones, and that important information is still missing, such as the crossing of the pipeline under the Ottawa River. "So far, the review process has been a mess," says Sidney Ribaux, CEO of Équiterre. "To this is added a secret meeting between the members of the previous Energy East review panel and Jean Charest, then lobbyist for TransCanada. The confidence of Canadians in the process up to now is completely nonexistent. The Board has no choice but to restart the project evaluation from zero. It's essential for the credibility of the NEB, " he adds.
