"Mines au Sud, gaz au Nord, même dépossession?" photo exhibit, Montreal

Event date(s):
1 November, 2012 - 10:00 - 29 November, 2012 - 18:00

From November 1 to 29, the Centre for Sustainable Development (better known by its official name, the Maison du développement durable) will play host to "Mine au Sud, gaz au Nord: même dépossession?", a photo exhibit featuring the work of photojournalists James Rodriguez and Pascale Fontaine, presented by the Projet Accompagnement Québec-Guatemala.

This exhibit draws parallels between social resistance to mining in Guatemala and citizen mobilization against the exploitation of shale gas in Quebec. It reflects part of the broader struggle for human rights and against the impunity of gas and mining companies in the North and the South.

James Rodriguez works primarily on issues of:

  • social justice
  • human rights violations
  • globalization

His work is a combination of:

  • visual art
  • activism
  • journalism
  • education

Pascale Fontaine is originally from the South Shore of Montreal. She likes to capture the issues of the day on camera, and was part of a Quebec delegation on shale gas to Pennsylvania.
