Bilingual Communications Advisor, based in Ottawa

Job description

Together with the communications and government relations directors, the incumbent will help deploy Équiterre’s communications plan in order to increase the organization’s presence and profile in English Canada.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Write, translate, and review communication, promotional, and awareness tools such as press releases, articles, reports, newsletters, social media posts, technical sheets, blog articles, and corporate documents.
  • Help establish the organization’s credibility and profile and attract media attention.
  • Gather, analyze, process, and release information on Équiterre’s activities and projects for its English-speaking clientele.
  • Develop, lead, and support English-speaking communities for the organization through social networks and produce monthly reports.
  • Coordinate Équiterre’s involvement in various events with the goal of developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with other environmental organizations and educational institutions.
  • Monitor current events for opportunities to raise public awareness.
  • Post content on the website, social networks, and an e-marketing software program.
  • Perform any other tasks required to ensure the success of Équiterre’s communication strategies.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Translation, or another relevant field
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position
  • Excellent English writing skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken French
  • Ample media relations experience, knowledgeable of trends in communications
  • Prioritizes effectively; adept at managing heavy workloads and diverse tasks
  • Exercises good judgment; excellent analysis and synthesis skills
  • Independent, shows initiative, detail-oriented, good-natured
  • Knowledge of environmental and climate change issues is an asset
  • Active interest in Équiterre’s mission and awareness of its priorities.


  • Based out of Équiterre’s Ottawa office
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Flexible working hours, 32 hours/week, may occasionally require evening and weekend availability
  • Salary according to salary scale, depending on education and experience
  • Four weeks of vacation + two weeks of leave during the Christmas holidays (unpaid the first year)
  • Group insurance and group RRSP
