Equiterre commends the Obama Administration for rejecting the Keystone XL Pipeline bid by TransCanada

Montreal, January 18, 2012 - Equiterre is pleased to learn that there are still political leaders in North America who can say no – to pressure groups, to greed – in the name of protecting human and environmental health.

“The rejection by the Obama Administration of the Keystone XL Pipeline project as proposed by TransCanada is a real slap in the face to the Harper government, which should take some time to reassess its energy development strategy,” says Steven Guilbeault, deputy executive director of Equiterre.

Equiterre hopes that the Harper government will stop undermining the environment and the democratic rights of the Canadian population in favour of the oil companies. There are other models of energy development than the “all-dirty-oil” strategy championed by Prime Minister Harper.
