New campaign – Sign up for an organic basket this summer

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, April 16, 2014 — Introducing “Équiterre’s Family Farmers want to adopt you!” a fun and original new campaign encouraging all Montreal residents to reconnect with our roots. How? By being adopted by one of our family farmers, who will provide them with fresh and locally grown organic vegetables each week throughout the summer. 35 nearby farms will supply produce for new subscribers who sign up for a basket today. Choose from 121 drop-off points near your home, workplace or at Pierrefonds-Roxboro Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) station.

“By signing up for our organic baskets, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the adoptive farmer who will be gracing your table with their synthetic-pesticide-free produce all summer long. All farms in our network are certified organic or have begun the certification process. The ability to enjoy local vegetables, grown with love by our family farmers is a unique culinary and human experience,” explains Isabelle St-Germain, Deputy Director, Équiterre.

Thanks to the new search engine on paniersbio.org, Équiterre has made it easy to search for drop-off points and even easier to select a basket from one of the farms in our network. In addition to offering flexible formats that suit every lifestyle, Équiterre’s Family Farmers Network also serves more than 450 drop-off points across Quebec, including 70 company locations, 20 Metro grocery stores and six sites of the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT).

Between June and October, 6-12 varieties of freshly picked produce will be packed into baskets, ready to be served on your tables. Some food growers also sell certified organic beef (on demand) and complementary items, such as eggs, fine herbs, honey and other food products. A delicious way to promote personal health and the environment, all the while supporting local farmers and contributing to the regional economy.

What’s new with Équiterre’s Family Farmers Network :

  • An efficient new search engine on paniersbio.org that makes it easy to sign up for an organic basket
  • One lucky citizen will win a season of organic baskets! Contest runs from April 15 to June 1.
  • All of our farms now offer produce exchange at basket drop-off points. Some farms will let you suspend delivery for vacation and choose from various formats of baskets.

This adoption campaign, created for our network, is especially relevant this year, as the United Nations has proclaimed 2014 to be the International Year of Family Farming, of which Équiterre’s Family Farmer’s Network is a unique model. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, family farming, even on a small scale, hugely contributes to the protection of the environment, stimulation of local economies and food security.
