Free guided tours, Maison du développement durable, Montreal

Equiterre and Hydro-Québec have joined forces to offer free guided tours of the Centre for Sustainable Development (better known by its official name, the Maison du développement durable).

Come discover what makes the Maison du développement durable one of the most environmentally and socially responsible buildings in Quebec, including such features as:

  • a five-storey living wall designed to act as a natural air filter
  • an eco-bannister made with century-old logs recovered from the bottom of the Georgian Bay
  • countertops made from recycled glass
  • experimental concrete
  • raised floor heating
  • light-weight elevators
  • a rainwater recovery system
  • a geothermal heating and cooling system
  • sustainable, sound-absorbent artwork made from organic materials using traditional artisanal methods

Student guides, courtesy of Hydro-Québec, will lead tours twice a day every Friday until June 21 (except for March 29), at:

  • 1:30 p.m.
  • 5:30 p.m.
