Video: Why join a community garden?

Published on

Francine, a member of the Églantier community garden in the Montreal borough Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, explains, "Before coming here, I'd never planted a garden in my life. I came from the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood, which was poor. I had a tree in front of my home, but that was about it." Now, her garden is part of who she is, just as it is for Nathalie, Thibault and their two boys. It has been a way for this family with Belgian roots to forge a deeper connection with their adopted city of Montreal.

Watch this video to learn about what a positive impact community gardening has had on these residents' lives. But be forewarned: it will give you an immediate desire to get your hands dirty.
