130+ communities take part in national day of action

Published on

As world leaders meet in Poland to discuss international climate commitments, more than 130 communities across Canada participated on Saturday, November 16 in Defend our Climate, Defend our Communities, a national day of action to show that there is a growing movement to stop pipelines, reckless tar sands expansion and runaway climate change.

Well over 10,000 participants took part – from Halifax to Vancouver, from Labrador to the Northwest Territories!

In Nunavut, courageous participants even fought the first blizzard of the year to pose for a photo symbolizing a wall of opposition against pipeline construction in Canada.

In Quebec, more than 600 people participated in two flagship events in Quebec City and Oka and other events in such communities as Rivière-du-Loup, Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac and Sherbrooke.

The National Day of Action received a lot of media coverage across the country and inspired other actions against tar sands development, including a national day of action against climate change in Australia, which took place the following day. Wow!

Congratulations to all the participants who made their voices heard.
