Équiterre is fortunate to have a growing and dynamic team of employees, interns and volunteers. The new faces that join the team over the years are complemented and supported by employees who, for many years, have embodied the best of what the organization has to offer, including our very own Assistant Director of Educational Programs, Murielle Vrins.
Last December, Murielle celebrated 20 years with Équiterre, and her commitment and dedication to the cause deserve to be highlighted!
Murielle joined Équiterre at the end of 2003 and was responsible for raising awareness about fair trade. She helped to make fair trade coffee and other products readily available in Quebec. She then held successive positions as Advisor and Project Manager before being promoted to the helm of the Sustainable Food team as Assistant Director in 2020.
With her vast experience in sustainable food and her in-depth knowledge of organizations working in the field, Murielle has been the architect of several major sustainable food projects, including Écoles enracinées, La Marmite éducative and De la ferme à l'école. Murielle was also instrumental in the development of the SNAAQ (Stratégie nationale pour l'achat d'aliments québécois).
Murielle coordinates her growing team and complex budgets with masterful skill. She excels at organizing great events with limited resources. A good example is when she helped organize Canada's first-ever conference on food in schools, "Du changement au menu", which brought over 450 participants and speakers from across the country to Montreal for 3 days, with the goal of uniting local and provincial initiatives into a collective, national movement.
Murielle's expertise has earned her invitations to appear on several television programs, including Moi, j'mange on Télé-Québec.
Including Murielle, Équiterre has six employees with over 15 years of experience with the organization.
