In Quebec City this weekend for Carnaval? We have a fun event to add to your itinerary, "Protégeons nos hivers", a friendly outdoor hockey game featuring performing artists, environmentalists and former NHL players united in the fight against climate change.
You probably know the facts. Climate change is already impacting winters in Quebec, making the outlook for certain winter sports quite grim.
- The likelihood for Montrealers of having a white Christmas has decreased by 10% since the 1980s.
- If you are 27 years old or younger, then you have never experienced a single month where the global temperature was below the historical average.
- Cross-country skiing could become a thing of the past in Quebec by 2050 if our greenhouse gas emissions continue at current rates.
Now's your chance to do something about it. Join us in Quebec City on Sunday, February 2 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Porte Saint-Louis rink (skills competition at noon, game at 1 p.m.). Bring your family and meet some celebrities.
Join the David Suzuki Foundation Protégeons hos hivers photo contest on Facebook. (In French only.)
Check out more facts about Quebec winters. (In French only, but definitely worth a look, even if only for the fabulous pictures of Montreal over the past century.)
