Sustainable mobility means we must meet the goal that the Canadian government has committed to, with an interim target that by 2030, 50% of vehicles sold will be zero-emission. And yet we are far from reaching the federal government’s targets. So what can we do to get on track? What policy options can be implemented to move things along?
Equiterre commissioned a study on the topic. Central to Équiterre's proposed strategy for accelerating the adoption of ZEVs in Canada is a ZEV standard, to reduce wait times by increasing the number of ZEVs available in all parts of Canada. A ZEV standard is an obvious solution, which has already proved its effectiveness in Canada. Quebec and British Columbia both already have a provincial ZEV standard and together they have almost the entire supply of the country's ZEVs. Quebec, the province with the most ZEV-friendly policies, had 57% of the available ZEV supply in 2021.
