Montreal, April 4th, 2025 – Ahead of the federal elections, four of the five main political parties—the Bloc Québécois, the New Democratic Party (NDP), the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC), and the Green Party—have committed to upholding the Quebec Environmental Consensus in the development of their respective political platform.
This initiative, led by the Vire au vert coalition—a group of about twenty Quebec civil society organizations—represents the bare minimum needed to ensure the credibility of environmental proposals within electoral platforms in the eyes of Quebec voters.
As for the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC), it has yet to endorse the Consensus, despite multiple outreach efforts by Vire au vert since the Consensus was launched last October.
"We have given parties plenty of time to take a stance, even though we see this Consensus as the bare minimum standard for environmental responsibility. The elections are fast approaching, and Quebec voters have the right to know where their potential representatives stand on these critical issues."

"Who We Are"
The Vire au vert coalition wishes to remind stakeholders that the Quebec Environmental Consensus is not a wish list of idealistic or radical demands, but rather a set of fundamental principles for climate and environmental action.
For instance, our water, lakes, and rivers are precious collective resources that must be protected from pollution, and our agricultural lands are essential to our food resilience. See the full list of Consensus principles.
"These are political and social choices that have shaped Quebec’s development, that define who we are as a nation and as a people," conclude the coalition's member groups.
