Équiterre’s petition against agricultural rezoning, signed by over 13,000 people, was delivered to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing on Tuesday. Thank you to all those who added their voice to demand that Quebec better protect our agricultural land.
Just before the petition closed, we made a final appeal to our supporters in order to reach 10,000 signatures. In 24 hours, 4,000 people signed the petition, putting us well beyond our goal! This petition helped us strengthen Équiterre’s submission to the government on the Stratégie nationale d’urbanisme et d’aménagement des territoires.
Our collective voice is strong and every additional voice gives more weight to our work. We have not yet heard back from the Minister about our petition, but we will continue to be involved and to put pressure until the government tables its final strategy in 2022.

The 3e lien tunnel project, which would link the shores of the St. Lawrence between Lévis and Quebec City, would jeopardize an important agricultural area. Sign the petition to say no to this senseless $10 billion project.
It’s a good example of how urban planning and development are all-encompassing issues that affect us directly, in our daily lives: mobility, local food, green spaces, our living environments... issues that are at the heart of climate solutions.
How can you make an impact in your area? Get involved in the November 7 municipal elections! Municipal governments have a lot of power over these issues and are very accessible to citizens. There may even be a debate on the environment in your municipality!
