Gifts of listed stocks
A powerful way to increase your impact
What if your contribution to Équiterre for the environment could also give you tax benefits? It’s possible by gifting listed stocks to Équiterre.
What are the advantages of publicly listed stocks?
Donating publicly listed stocks involves transferring your shares, corporate or government bonds, or mutual funds to a charity.
Many benefits :
- You eliminate a portion of the capital gains tax resulting from the distribution of these stocks directly to a charity. When you donate stocks or bonds, you reduce your capital gains tax;
- You benefit from attractive tax advantages of up to 50%;
- Your support will be more important to Équiterre and to future generations.
What’s the process for gifting stocks?
1. Get in touch with Équiterre. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Together, we can also make sure that your stocks or bonds qualify.
2. Let your broker handle the rest. Initiate the transfer through your broker and your institution by completing their form or Équiterre's form. Based on the instructions you provide, your stocks will be transferred over in a few simple steps.
3. Share the good news with us! Send your institution form or the Équiterre form to donplanifie@equiterre.org.
4. Get a tax receipt. You will receive a tax receipt based on the market value of the sale and you will get an attractive tax deduction on your income tax return.
Please allow at least 30 business days to receive your tax receipt.
Turn your investments into a force for the planet and join a community of donors committed to making the world a better place.
We recommend that you consult a financial expert in deciding the type of stocks you wish to donate, as well as the most appropriate time to do so.
